About YAN Space Renovation

The Rossland YAN is getting a new home!!! And we could use your help!

Based on diverse youth input during our first two years (2013 & 2014), we heard that a dedicated youth space in Rossland is a priority. March 1, 2015 we opened a short-term storefront location in downtown Rossland, and like many youth spaces, we have been working hard to cover the significant monthly costs of this location.

In December 2015, the City of Rossland reallocated a building at 2385 Washington Street to create a sustainable, rent free, dedicated youth space in Rossland.  This building, located between Rossland Summit School and the site of the Rossland Skatepark, is ideal for youth engagement and programming but requires extensive renovations.

We are actively renovating the two bay shop into a vibrant space for youth and community.  Our plan is to complete a considerable portion of this amazing project with the help of community volunteers and donations. We have received promised in-kind services from many local businesses and have written a number of successful grant applications.

We are reaching out to our community for contributions to give us the final push necessary to complete the project and have the new YAN Space open in October 2017.  Donations of $25 or more are eligible for a tax receipt.

We will be fully renovating the south bay of the building to include meeting/activity space, an office, small kitchen, and two bathrooms (one only accessible to the outside to service the skatepark and other users).  An engineered beam and posts will be added to bring the roof up to current snow load code.  We will be adding a mezzanine section to increase usable square footage for additional programming space.  Exterior windows will be added for natural lighting.  The exterior of the building will be sided, and a mural created by youth will be prominently displayed. The north bay will be renovated into an open concept, multi-purpose area for youth & community programming.
